The West Bengal Mineral Development and Trading Corporation (WBMDTC) has entered into an understanding with public sector KIOCL (Kudremukh Iron Ore Company) for exploration, extraction and improvement of iron ore in West Bengal.

State Finance Minister Amit Mitra said the two partners are supposed to set up a Rs 850 crore venture for exploration, extraction and beneficiation of iron ore for the first time in the state.”An investment of around Rs 50 crore has already been made for exploration of iron ore reserves in the Belpahari region.
